California law defines each crime according to a specific code section. The Penal Code defines the vast majority of the crimes. But the Vehicle Code addresses certain crimes involving cars, motor vehicles and driving. The Health & Safety Code addresses most crimes involving marijuana or narcotics. What does California Criminal Code 597 Mean?

597	Animal Cruelty
597.1(A)	Failure To Care For Animals
597.1(A)(1)	Keep An Animal Without Proper Care And Attention.
597.5(A)	Possess/Train/Etc Fighting Dog
597.5(A)(1)	Owns, possesses, keeps, or trains any dog, with the intent that the dog shall be engaged in an exhibition of fighting with another dog.
597.5(A)(2)	Dog Fighting
597.5(B)	Present At Dog Fight
597.7	No person shall leave or confine an animal in any unattended motor vehicle under conditions that endanger the health or well-being of an animal.
597.7(A)	Unattended Animal In Vehicle
597.9(B)	Within five years after a conviction for animal cruelty, owns, possesses, maintains, has custody of, resides with, or cares for any animal.
