What are Crime Codes

California law defines each crime according to a specific code section. The Penal Code defines the vast majority of the crimes. But the Vehicle Code addresses certain crimes involving cars, motor vehicles and driving. The Health & Safety Code addresses most crimes involving marijuana or narcotics. What does California Criminal Code 853.6I Mean?

853.6I Booking Into Jail.
853.6(I)(1) Unable to release after arrest for misdemeanor because person arrested was so intoxicated that he or she could have been a danger to himself or herself or to others.
853.6(I)(4) Whenever any person is arrested by a peace officer for a misdemeanor, that person shall be released according to the procedures set forth by this chapter unless there were one or more outstanding arrest warrants for the person.
853.6(I)(5) Misdemeanor arrest release guidelines in relation to potentially jeopardized prosecution.
853.6(I)(7) Non-release guidelines in relation to misdemeanor offense when safety would be engaged by release of individual.
853.6(I)(8) Person arrested by peace officer for misdemeanor shall be released unless the person arrested demanded to be taken before a magistrate or refused to sign the notice to appear.
853.6(I)(9) Release from custody guidelines for misdemeanor arrests.
